Dutchess County Gotland Geese Shawl Kit
Knit your own Little Women-inspired Gotland Geese shawl, designed especially for our yarn by vintage knitwear designer Sydney Crabaugh.
Our 2022 collaboration with Sydney Crabaugh, beloved "Headmistress" of Squid's School of Vintage Knitting, has been a delightful labor of love! Few knitwear designers can rival (or rock) Sydney's vintage style and attitude, not to mention her incredible breadth of knowledge on vintage knitwear and technique.
The pattern for this "sontag-style" shawl was inspired by the hand-stitched flying geese quilt proudly displayed at Louisa May Alcott's Orchard House (and made by her mother!). The warm, earthy feel of Gotland yarn is just the perfect medium for this shawl’s intricate textured stitch work and the beautiful geometric designs of Victorian-era American quilting.
The Dutchess County Gotland Geese Kit includes 4 skeins of 100% pure 2-ply DK Weight Gotland Yarn, spun at Battenkill Fibers (2 charcoal, 1 medium grey and 1 light grey) wrapped in craft paper and twine + a printed pattern + a keepsake picture postcard of our Gotland flock. Our 2024 yarn selection showcases the beautiful fiber of Mama Izzy, Lisbeth, Mattina, Madde, and twins, Sister Pia and Brother Per.
Each skein is 100g/4oz, approximately 240 yards.

Please keep in mind
Gotland yarn is still a rarity in the US and produced mostly from small family farm flocks.
This means the yarn tends to sell out quickly, and we are not able to re-stock until the next shearing cycle. Each distinct color is made available in small quantities only once a year, so we encourage you to purchase enough to finish your project. If in doubt, grab an extra skein because we cannot guarantee that our next batch will be an exact match—in fact, we know it won’t be! That’s the beauty of small-batch farm yarns.
